About the Diffuser Design
The project began with a request to create a product that could embrace and affirm the emotions often perceived as negative, offering encouragement to users. To express the intangible elements of emotions and scents, the concept was to design a product that allows users to visually enjoy these aspects.
The diffuser features two liquid colors—one representing a scent that soothes the user's negative emotions and another embodying a scent that "hugs" (accepts) those emotions. Users can customize and blend these to create their own unique scents and colors. The liquids are absorbed by a filter and mixed, creating a new marble-like gradient and fragrance each time the diffuser is used.
For the filter, we collaborated with the production team to select bamboo washi from Awa Washi, which specializes in water absorption and creates beautiful gradients. The glass body is made of thick, translucent glass, designed to refract light softly and enhance the emotional impact of the gradients and patterns. Its simple form was carefully crafted to highlight the core of the product—the blend of colors and gradients—in an elegant and emotive way.
