This sculptural design object was crafted by bending steel to 1 mm thick. It was inspired by the moment a sheet of paper is gently placed on a table. Designed to evoke a sense of calm within a space, it creates floating, geometric shapes that cast shadows for a serene, poised presence. The product is also fully recyclable, constructed without adhesives, and made only with steel.
The precise and tension-filled details of this product were made possible by highly skilled craftsmen. Japan Benex specializes in sheet metal processing for public and industrial products, however, during my visit to the factory, I noticed their flexible approach to creating new things and their delicate techniques reminiscent of craftsmanship. This allowed me to discover a 'new potential in sheet metal' unique to the craftsmen. Through this process, we arrived at the challenging and technically demanding design of "Moment."

Request: Pursuing new possibilities in sheet metal
“I envisioned designs featuring geometric shapes with simple, organized patterns to
highlight the craftsmen's strengths for this products. In sheet metal processing, geometric shapes make slight distortions and misalignments more apparent than organic forms, requiring advanced, refined skills, which challenge the craftsmen. ”
